Summary:

The campaign from Parent Education in Switzerland ‘Bonds make you Strong’ is a general public awareness campaign on what infants and toddlers need in order to become integrated member of society in the future. The campaign has started on the Parent Education Day on September, 4, 2010, and will run for three years.

The campaign includes a brochure available in 15 languages that will be given to all expectant parents. It is intended to assist parents to respond to the needs of their child. It illustrates that it is normal when parents feel overwhelmed once in a while. The long-term goal is to create a lasting awareness about this topic among parents.

The campaign is based on the previous campaign, "Education makes you Strong". The similarity of the campaign titles was a conscious decision to capitalize on the existing partnerships and resources in place and directly build on the success of the previous campaign. The campaign ‘Bonds make you Strong’ is directed at parents with newborns.

In addition to the brochure, an awareness campaign will be launched to sensitize key professionals like midwives, parent advisors and pediatricians teachers , as well as  representatives from scientific research, politics and the media, and involve them in this matter.

 
On the occasion of the campaign, the Jacobs Foundation organizes a Jacobs Foundation Forum on the topic: "How much Parenting Needs a Child?" on November 15. The forum focuses on the question of possible and ideal educational and family models. The question of the intra-and extra-family care will be discussed.
